It makes emotional responses like anger, stress and frustration become choices and gives you better ways of handling situations with awareness instead of being overcome by the emotion. What Is Generative NLP?

nlpGenerative NLP uses the capacity to be aware of seeming opposite realities without one having to be “right” and the other “wrong”. When we can hold different perspectives with curiosity, new and surprising solutions can often emerge. The combination of beginner’s mind (not knowing), curiosity and persistence is at the core of generative NLP.
Holding emotions involves non-reactivity, unconditional acceptance, trust, kindness and curiosity about the emotion without wanting to change it.
Generative NLP involves balancing and aligning between three minds in order to produce a deeper and more multi-dimensional intelligence. The three minds are:

  • A cognitive mind that emerges from the brain
  • A somatic mind centered in the body
  • A “field” mind that comes from our connection and relationships with larger systems around us

The techniques of Generative NLP have to do with centering in our somatic core, sponsoring the development of greater wholeness with people and connecting to the wisdom and guidance within the larger systems (collective consciousness) around us.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy, also referred to as hypnosis or hypnotic suggestion, is a trance-like state in which you have heightened focus and concentration. Hypnosis is usually done with the help of a therapist using verbal repetition and mental images. When you’re under hypnosis, you usually feel calm and relaxed, and are more open to suggestions.
Hypnosis can be used to help you gain control over undesired behaviours or to help you cope better with anxiety or pain. It’s important to know that although you’re more open to suggestion during hypnosis, you don’t lose control over your behaviour.

The Conscious and Unconscious Minds

The conscious mind is the part responsible for logic and reasoning. It is everything that is in present moment awareness. It controls all the actions you do on intention eg moving your arm or leg. The underlying purpose of the conscious mind is survival and it often thinks of the worst outcome scenarios, making up little stories.
The unconscious however is where our creativity, inspiration and intuition reside. It contains thoughts, feelings, resources and possibilities that you’re not paying attention to at that time. It can communicate with all the cells in the body and thinks in pictures, sounds, feelings, smells and tastes. It is where all your beliefs and memories are stored.
The conscious mind is like the rider of a horse, steering and guiding, setting outcomes and deciding directions. The unconscious is like the horse that actually does the work in getting the rider where they need to go. It’s not a good idea to let the horse dictate the direction and likewise it’s not advisable for the rider to tell the horse exactly where to step each foot. There is an optimum balance.

Our Identity Journey

In his book Hero With a Thousand Faces, Joseph Campbell talks about the three life paths we can take: the village, the wasteland and the journey.
The village represents the life path that has been mapped out for us by our culture and society: We are born, go to school, graduate, get a job, get married, have children, work until we retire and finally we die. This path has a lot of security and safety and doesn’t “rock the boat” very much. We do as we are expected. It is essentially the path of the ego. For many people this is a satisfactory way to live their lives.
For others it is not so simple. For some reason, either they do not fit in or they are compelled to do something more. The village to them is “a life of quiet desperation”. Rather than thrive in the village, they feel caged, suffocated or repressed. For these people, according to Campbell, there are two other possible paths.
The wasteland represents the path of the rebel, outlaw or outcast. It is a life on the fringe of what is considered appropriate and normal. It is an attempt to flourish by rejecting and escaping the village into sex, drugs and rock n roll etc. It may end in something like an addiction to alcohol or drugs, perhaps some criminal activity or maybe just a life of isolation.
The other path is the journey. On the journey we follow our heart, vision and calling to find our own way and discover something new. This is the path of all great leaders, entrepreneurs and pioneers. Through the challenges and discoveries along the way we acquire courage, insight, wisdom, resiliency and a greater awareness of ourselves and the world. When we return to the village we are able to make our own unique contribution to others and become recognised and acknowledged for who we really are.
